- Buyers of interpreting services clamor for its relative ease of use and lower cost.
- Many interpreters view it with suspicion or outright opposition, depending on how it is impacting their workplace.
- Agencies stand in the middle, scrambling to respond to increased demand from its clients while at the same time working with their interpreters to find the right delivery model.
- Tech companies, seeing opportunity, have jumped in with new platforms to provide the service.
- And end users? Well, for the most part, they just want their communication needs solved.
Our field is relatively small to begin with. When we find ourselves divided into even smaller camps, we cannot advocate for our best interests or navigate disruptive change.
At our upcoming InterpretAmerica 6 Summit (#InterpretAmerica6), we will be tackling this divisive topic by engaging in a results-oriented discussion between major groups in our profession.
Our goal is not modest. By the end of the day, we hope to have a draft action plan in place, created by the participants, for the creation and implmentation of best practices for remote interpreting.

Our onsite attendance is sold out, but there is still the chance to participate by registering for online attendance or our plenary livestream/social media hangout options.
When you attend online, you will be able to participate directly and speak with other participants, unlike the standard webinar experience. Full online attendance is available for up to 80 participants. There are still a few spaces available but they are filling fast.
- First, you will be present for the plenaries through a close-up and live video feed.
- Then you will break into workgroups through the use of virtual breakout rooms that will allow you to discuss the very same topics that the onsite workgroups are.
If you sign up for the plenary livestream/social media hangout, our most affordable option, your opinions will also be heard.
- You will be part of the plenary sessions where we frame the issue through a dynamic panel discussion.
- Then you can participate in social media hangout sessions where you can voice your opinions and ideas.
Your feedback, whether through participation in virtual workgroups or from social media interaction, will be compiled and shared during the final plenary - along with feedback from the onsite participants in Washington, DC.
