Knowledgefest in Istanbul

Published: 06 March 2014

GALA 2014 will offers Knowledgefest as a blend of learning and networking, supported by the incredible collective intelligence represented at its conferences.

Somehow it is already March, and our collaboration with the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) to produce unique content for their annual Language of Business Conference is upon us. As we pack our bags and prepare our presentations, we want to continue to highlight some of the unique content coming your way in Istanbul. Today's focus is Knowledgefest

For those who have attended the InterpretAmerica Summits and participated in the Professional Identity Workgroup sessions we've held to promote direct conversation and problem-solving by conference attendees, Knowledgefest will feel familiar.

GALA 2014 will offers Knowledgefest as a blend of learning and networking, supported by the incredible collective intelligence represented at its conferences. Knowledgefest was first organized in Miami at GALA 2013. It was very well-received with many participants citing Knowledgefest as their favorite part of the conference.

As part of our think!Interpreting programming, we are proud to be participating in

Knowledgefest with two topics dedicated exclusively to interpreting.

 - Technology and the Delivery of Interpreting Services      - Is That Interpreting or Translation? Newly-minted Hybrid Communication Models

The event is held as a series of concurrent roundtable discussions on Wednesday morning, the final day of the conference. Each roundtable will be hosted by a discussion facilitator.

For Technology and the Delivery of Interpreting Services we are proud to have Kathleen Diamond, the Founder and former CEO of Language Learning Enterprises, Inc. and Kristin Quinlan, CEO of Certified Languages International, joining InterpretAmerica Co-President Barry Slaughter Olsen as discussion co-facilitators. This will be an excellent opportunity for attendees to get caught up with current technology trends impacting interpreting delivery platforms.

InterpretAmerica Co-President Katharine Allen will facilitate the discussion for the second roundtable, Is That Interpreting or Translation? Newly-minted Hybrid Communication Models. With mobile communications increasingly impacting how humans interact, we are seeing new forms of real-time communication that are neither fully verbal nor fully written. Texting, chat, real-time subtitling and even emailing have both verbal and oral components that are starting to challenge traditional divisions between interpreting and translation. This roundtable promises a lively exchange of experiences and opinions around this quickly evolving topic.

It's not too late to join us in Istanbul, Turkey, March 23-26. Check out the conference websiteand consider signing up!
