Our New Technology-Infused Profession: InterpretAmerica 6 Seeks Positive Solutions

Published September 18, 2017 2:52:30 AM /

Remind us, please, when September and October are behind us, that putting on two signature events within a month of each other makes for some very busy fall days!

Today we are excited to announce that registration for InterpretAmerica 6 is now open. If you've attended one of our previous Summits, heads up, because this year we have created something different.

InterpretAmerica 6 will take aim at the disruption and anxiety remote interpreting is causing in our field during a one-day working Summit this coming October 30 in Washington, D.C. We have designed a smaller, more intimate event that we hope will help set in motion the creation of best practices for remote interpreting.

As ever, our goal is to provide the place and time for representatives from all across our field to gather, roll up their sleeves and systematically identify what needs to be done to get formal best practices for remote interpreting in place. Ultimately, our professional associations and other lead organizations are best positioned to carry this effort to conclusion.

The Summit serves up a straightforward mix of plenary presentations and workgroup sessions. The morning will be dedicated to identifying the challenges and changes remote interpreting is bringing to our profession. The afternoon will focus on making concrete recommendations for how to proactively turn what is currently disruption into agreed-upon best practices that protect interpreters end-users and clients.

Everyone's input will be captured and published in a written report that will be made publicly available shortly after the Summit takes place.

One indicator we have that tells us we are talking about the right topic at the right time is the tremendous response we've had from leading organizations and companies who have come on board to sponsor the Summit.

While our onsite attendance will be more limited that in previous years, you can still attend virtually and participate in every way except for physically shaking your colleagues' hands. Online attendees will work in virtual breakout rooms while their onsite counterparts do the same in Washington, D.C.

We will also be livestreaming the morning and afternoon plenaries and organizing social media hangouts for those who can't attend the full Summit.

Our Summit website provides complete details about the event, venue, program, and the three different ways you can participate. Remember, space is limited, so register soon!

More than ever, your voice is what matters to this event. The distress and uncertainty remote interpreting has created among many practitioners, language companies and end users is a clarion call to all who want our profession to grow, thrive and seek positive solutions in a new technology-infused workplace.
